“The goal of early childhood education should be to activate the child’s own desire to learn”
Maria Montessori
We are delighted to share some very exciting news about the next stage of The Willow on the Farm Pre-Prep School.
Following discussions with specialist contractors, we are moving forward with revised plans for our new school building.
We were also absolutely thrilled with the outcome of our recent Ofsted pre-registration inspection, an important part of the process of becoming a registered Independent School. Inspectors judged that as an Outstanding nursery setting, we already meet the vast majority of the Independent School Standards for Reception to Year 2, including most importantly:
- Quality of Education
- Teaching
- Assessment
- Safeguarding
- Behaviour and Welfare
- Leadership and Management

We were particularly delighted that our Educational Vision and Curriculum were so positively recognised. They noted that at The Willow on the Farm, children develop strong foundations in Literacy and Numeracy, while still protecting the curiosity, creativity, confidence and love of learning that make childhood so special with us. This will be continued on to Year 2 – imagine the possibilities!
The only negative comment from Ofsted was that the building was not yet ready. This is a little bit like the chicken and the egg. However, we are thrilled that this was the only area raised, as it is something which is already being addressed!
“Willow on the Farm offers something very special: a place where children are allowed to be children while gently building the skills that will carry them forward.”

Our Montessori-inspired ethos, combined with a rich indoor and outdoor learning environment, gives children the time and space to explore, think deeply, follow their interests, and develop a genuine love of learning. Seeing the children’s progress reinforces our belief in the importance of these formative early years, and in the positive impact that our farm-based environment can have on children’s development.
Any future expansion would remain true to our vision: a nurturing and inspiring environment where children learn through meaningful, hands-on experiences, both indoors and outdoors in nature, supported by staff who know them well and respect each child’s individual developmental journey.
“Choosing to stay for Reception has really helped our child’s confidence to grow. We’ve seen her become more willing to join in with group discussions, try new things and take pride in her achievements. She is happy, settled and enthusiastic about learning, and as parents that reassurance is invaluable. We are so grateful for the care and encouragement she receives every day.”
